About

Hi Friends

I’m Kitty, I’ve been vegan since 2019, and a travel lover since 2002!

Okay, let’s rewind. I spent much of my childhood conflicted with loving animals but accepting that eating them was normal. It was something I always struggled with, and I was a vocal advocate for anti-animal cruelty messages. I would parade around with lists of companies that tested on animals, boycotting them and demanding the people around me do the same (this wasn’t well received). I even traumatised my year 9 English class with several graphic videos on animal abuse when asked to create a presentation for what I would like to put in Room 101. Little Kitty had her heart in the right place, but she was going about it all the wrong way. Not to mention eating questionable amounts of meat & fish whilst on this moral crusade – not sure she thought that one through!

As I grew up, I became more and more aware of veganism and knew it was the leap I needed to take. Like most people, I worried I would miss out on foods that I’d spent my entire life enjoying without a second thought. It’s a huge lifestyle change. I finally decided to commit to veganism in the summer of 2019 after I moved back to England following a year in Italy. At first, I told myself I’d trial it for 1 week to see how I got on. Well, the week passed, then a month, and soon after the years kept rolling. I’ve really never looked back and now I can’t imagine my life any other way. And spoiler alert to my younger self – I’ve never felt that I was missing out on anything!

Now travelling on the other hand, is something I’ve really always been captivated by. I think this one I can date back to 2002 when I first went on holiday to Texas with my mum, dad, and sister. My parents actually married in Texas and we would go there on their wedding anniversary every year for almost a decade. These trips I cherish still to this day, crediting them with the years that opened my eyes to the world of travel. Well my sister and I grew up and my parents grew apart, but what stayed was that wanderlust.

It was also during this time that I established my love for travel writing. Each year I would scribble down notes of where we ate, what we did, and who we visited. To this day I have a duffle bag bursting with my childhood travel journals tucked away in my attic. They are the chapters of my story.

So that’s my past, but what about my present, my future? As I mentioned, I went vegan in 2019 and since then I have made a great effort to educate myself on all things vegan – lifestyle, diet, nutrition, and more. I started an Instagram page in 2022 where I began showcasing my vegan cooking. I’ve always thought it’s crazy that there is this false narrative about veganism being restrictive when to me it has always been about possibilities and creativity. This was the main motivation behind starting my Instagram. I wanted to show people just how delicious, versatile, easy, and accessible plant-based food can be!  I can honestly say I am far more creative in the kitchen now than I ever was as a meat-eater. I love to experiment with ingredients, flavours and textures. And if you’d like to hear more about this, you can check out some of my favourite recipes here.

Over the last few years of growing my instagram I am so blessed to say I have had amazing opportunities to collaborate with different brands and work with some amazing people writing articles and creating recipes. But as much as I have enjoyed this, I wanted to create my very own platform where I can share my own ideas, creations, and vegan tips. That’s how As a Vegan was born!

So whether it’s vegan travel tipsrestaurant reviewslifestyle advice or delicious plant-based recipes you’re looking for – you’re in the right place! I invite you to join me as I navigate life As a Vegan.

Xoxo
